Hey, y'all are going to crush your first year. Hopefully this Amboss guide helps a bit.

Find Qbank Questions

  1. First, click on the Learning tab.
  1. Then select Qbank from the menu.
  1. Now select Create a Qbank Session.

Build a Qbank Session

You have a few different options to amalgamate and filter questions for you session. Let’s look at them.

Upload your files to create a session

This is probably the best way to tailor your question bank to specifically what you are going over in class. When you select this, Amboss launches into AI Mode. From here, upload PDFs or Learning Objectives, and it will formulate a question bank for you based on the material you provided.

One caveat: It isn’t perfect, and some questions might not be aligned with your study objectives.

Describe what you want to study

Describe what you want to study

This is helpful for finding questions on a specific pathology, bug, or drug.

Same M.O. as the last one, Amboss launches into AI Mode, and you can go from there.

Set session topics

Set session topics (a.k.a. the filtering list)

Filter your list based on Amboss articles, systems, symptoms, and more.

In my opinion, this is the most tedious and least specific way to find relevant questions. I rarely use this to make a question bank for MKAs and other tests. However, it is helpful to go through an entire system (i.e., Respiratory) for USMLE Step 1 review.

Our school sometimes misses certain topics that we are expected to know for USMLE Step 1. It's also good practice to go through a system toward the end of that system block.

Session Criteria and Filters

Once you have picked what you want to study from the Set session topics, it will tell you how many questions are available and provide some further filtering options to tailor the QBank session to your needs.

How many questions?

Choose the number of questions

When I select the Respiratory System, 200 questions are available to study.

You can do 1–100 questions in a single Qbank session.

Filter by difficulty

Filter by difficulty

All difficulty levels are included unless filters are selected.

When you have finished chosing your difficulty level, click the Done button.

Filter by Status

Filter by status

By default, all statuses are include unless a filter is selected.

This is helpful as you continue to use Amboss.

Take your Qbank

Once you’ve set up your Qbank session, you’re ready to get started. It will look like this.

Labs

These are your normal lab values you can reference for a question. It’s the values we will have during our USMLE Step 1 exam.

Add notes

This opens a notepad where you can type in whatever your heart desires. You can also paste pictures and diagrams into it. However, these notes are only saved in the Qbank session you are currently in. If you run into the same question in another session (and you added notes in a different Qbank), your notes won’t be there.

Mark

Mark or flag your question! Self-explanatory. Remember though, you can filter by marked questions in Session Criteria when you make a question bank.
