Improve Your Service

Turn your cell phone into a personal hotspot for faster connectivity.

Warning: This may result in the use of a lot of data; please be aware of the limits of your mobile plan!

Restart Your Wireless Router and Modem

  1. Unplug the power from your wireless router and leave unplugged.
  2. Unplug the power from your modem.
  3. Wait two minutes, and then plug the power back into the modem. It will take a few minutes for the modem to boot up.
  4. Finally, plug the power back into the wireless router. It will take a few minutes for your router to boot up.

Connect to Ethernet

We recommend using ethernet whenever possible for the most reliable Internet connection.

Contact Your Internet Service Provider

Ask your ISP if there are any outages with the network in your area. Then, ask them to run a diagnostic test on your modem.

Exit and Rejoin Your Zoom Meeting

How Many Devices Are on Your Network?

Disconnect any devices you aren't currently using for your meeting, class, or exam.

Sometimes this is an easy fix. Zoom has some other suggestions here.

Avoid Other Activities That Steal Bandwidth

This includes large downloads or uploads, streaming videos, cloud file synchronizations (OneDrive), and more.

Mute Your Microphone When Not Speaking

Zoom devotes part of your Internet connection to an audio stream, even when you aren't speaking.

Turn off Your Zoom Virtual Background

This feature takes up a lot of bandwidth. Sorry!

Do a Speed Test

Check your Internet (broadband wired or wireless) bandwidth using speedtest.net.

We recommend that your Internet has 8 Mbps download speed and 8 Mbps upload speed.
