Wi-Fi Down? Now what?

We work with our Campus IT counterparts to identify issues and improve our connectivity on the Spokane campus. Occasionally, there are times when we have interruptions and outages. Our team’s outage response plan kicks into gear immediately upon discovery of an outage.

Here’s what you can do to report an outage and help us get you reconnected as quickly as possible!

I Am on Campus

Report the Outage

Let us know via Slack, email, or phone (509-368-6848):

  • where you are
  • when the interruption began
  • if we need to check on any remote participants from your meeting

Hotspot Delivery

We’ll deliver a hotspot so you can keep learning, teaching, and working! Once you receive the hotspot:

  • Scan the QR code to join the network.
  • Quick press the hotspot Power button and read the Network Name and Password. If you are on a different screen, touch the Home button to return to the Main screen to read the Name and Password.

Updates and Information

During unexpected outages, we will post status updates every hour in our Slack channels.

Sign up to receive alerts about critical WSU outages. Choose text alerts, email alerts, or both. Please note that if we experience a network outage, email alerts will be down.

I Am Remote

If you experience connectivity issues while remote, follow these instructions to determine where the issue might be.

Test Your Local Network

Open a browser and connect to Google, Facebook, YouTube, or any other reliable website.

If you can connect with another website

It’s probably not a Wi-Fi issue. Reach out to us on Slack, email, or by phone (509-368-6848) to let us know what you’re experiencing. We can provide next steps, or skip to the troubleshooting section to resolve the issue yourself.

If you cannot connect to another website

If you cannot connect to another website, test the same site on your mobile device that is also connected to your local network. Then, move down to the next section.

If you can connect on your mobile device

Skip down for ways to troubleshoot, or reach out to us to report the issue and receive help.

If you cannot connect on your mobile device

Disconnect from Wi-Fi and try again. Here are instructions to forget the Wi-Fi Network and reconnect. Then, move down to the next section.

If you can connect now

Enable the hotspot mode on your mobile device and connect your device to your phone’s network.

Warning: This may result in the use of a lot of data, please be aware of the limits of your mobile plan!

If you still cannot connect

Try a different site. If you still cannot connect, you may be experiencing a widespread outage in your area.
