Medical school orientation can be like drinking from a fire hose. We’ve put together this technology information so you can be prepared and return to it later. This information contains what you need to know and prepare for your first weeks of class.

The Basics

WSU Wi-Fi

E.Flo MD

  • E.Flo MD is the College of Medicine's learning management system.
  • Know where you are going and when you need to be there.
  • Know which small group you belong to and where they meet.

Sync your E.Flo MD calendar with Outlook. Outlook comes with the Office 365 student license. 

Slack

College departments, groups, and individuals use Slack as their instant messaging tool. Don't miss out on important information!

Zoom

The college uses Zoom for screen sharing on iPads and other devices, online meetings, and synchronous classes. 

Ensure that Zoom is installed and you're logged in via the SSO Sign In option. Use your WSU credentials to log in.

Technology at Home

This app allows you to create a tunnel to the campus network—to browse library resources as if you are on campus and should resolve most library access issues.

Prepare for Your First Days of Medical School

Get ready for your first weeks of med school by making sure you understand and can log into the following apps by the dates below.

  • Locations services turned on for attendance tracking for the "You Make the Diagnosis" session.
  • Be ready to join Vevox for "The Cell" Biochemistry session.
  • Note-taking application in place for all sessions.
  • Adobe Acrobat.
  • Office 365.
  • G-Suite.
  • Bookmark the MD Learning website.
    • You will use the MD Learning website for the dissector and labs and other sessions during your medical education.
    • Gross Anatomy Introduction
  • Location services turned on for the required Art and Practice of Medicine (APM) session.
  • Location services turned on for the required Information Literacy session. Don't miss this one! It's all about navigating the library and their services.
  • Digital Scope for Introduction to Nervous Tissue. 
  • Before Approach to CBL (on August 27), familiarize yourself with the Books app on your iPad. Your cases will be sent to your iPads automatically and appear in the Books app. Learn more about CBL.

You’ll use Adobe Acrobat for class materials (presentations, articles, worksheets, etc.) are delivered in PDF format, which can be dropped into note-taking applications such as OneNote and Notability.

Timing: Know where your Adobe Acrobat is on your iPad and how to use it before Introduction to Physiology, Monday, August 18. Go to E.Flo MD.

Some suggestions: 
Office 365: OneNote (available through student Office license). 
Notability: Fee-based app. 
Goodnotes: Fee via app store. 

Timing: We strongly advise students to have a note-taking app in place before Introduction to Physiology session on Monday, August 18, or at the latest by Introduction to Histology on Thursday, August 21

You will use this audience response system, in your first Biochemistry session and throughout your preclerkship classes.

Timing: Prior to The Cell on Tuesday, August 20. Go to E.Flo MD. 

Case-based Learning (CBL) eBook cases are pushed to your iPad before each CBL session. You will use the eBook in class.

Timing: Become familiar with the Books app books-app-icon-image on your iPad and attend Approach to CBL on Wednesday, August 27. Go to E.Flo MD for session dates and times.

WSU students receive a university-provided license Office 365 apps. Use your WSU email and Password to access the applications.  

Timing: Download the PowerPoint application on your devices before the first Cellular Physiology session on Cellular Motility to access the in-class activity on Wednesday, August 20. Go to E.Flo MD.

WSU students receive access to G-Suite by signing in with their WSU credentials. G-Suite is an optional resource that can be used for storing documents and working collaboratively on documents with groups of individuals.

Timing: We recommend students be familiar with applications available through G-Suite before Developing CBL Small Group Norms on Wednesday, August 27. Go to E.Flo MD.

All classes that are recorded will be stored in Panopto.

Timing: Know what Panopto is and how to access it by the end of Monday, August 18th, to review any session recordings.

PACS is the imaging viewer software used in the anatomy lab. More information will be provided as you near your Radiology: Introduction to Imaging session in October. 

Timing: By October. Go to E.Flo MD for session date and time.

Study Aids: Don’t Miss Out on Your Student-Licensed Tools

Amboss is a learning resource that features articles, videos, and an extensive question bank that can be used for self-assessment and college-provided mastery exams.

This study tool utilizes animation and voiceover to explain medical topics. Faculty will suggest Osmosis videos in their pre-class materials.

Study tool that employs a story-telling delivery mechanism using mnemonics.

Often used in Pharmacology sessions and referenced by faculty.

Learn more about Epocrates.

    The Medical Digital Learning website holds the anatomy lab Dissector and other learning materials created by faculty for our students. On your iPad , look for the MD Learning icon that will take you directly to the MD Learning website.
