Are you getting feedback from colleagues that your microphone volume is too loud or too quiet? You can adjust that!

  1. In the lower left-hand corner of your Zoom window—next to the microphone icon with the Mute label—click on the up arrow to access the audio menu.
  1. Select Audio Settings at the bottom of the list. A new window will open.
  1. If your microphone levels are too loud, uncheck the Automatically adjust microphone box and manually adjust your audio levels with the Input Level slider. Slide to the left if your microphone is too loud, or to the right if it is not loud enough.

Suppress Background Noise

To suppress background noise (everything from computer fans to barking dogs!), you can use the Suppress Background Noise feature in Zoom.

Sometimes this feature is the opposite of helpful, and it should be turned off so you have more even audio quality. In that case, you can still follow these instructions to return to the default auto suppression.

  1. Find the Mute button and click on the up arrow next to it.
  2. Select Audio Settings to open the settings window.
  1. In the section called Suppress background noise, select the amount of noise suppression you need, from Low to High.
