Our Student Tech Lead program

We our STLs!

The Student Tech Lead (STL) program was established in 2018 as a way of incorporating students into the mission of the Office of Technology. Through this program, we hire around 20 medical students across all four years of undergraduate medical education to support academic sessions, work on Office of Technology projects, and provide feedback on Office of Technology initiatives.

A Student Tech Lead’s primary responsibility is to provide classroom support in academic sessions. They arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to greet the faculty member and help them to set up everything that person needs in order to deliver the session. The STL is present for the duration of the session and will assist with any issues that may arise during the session so instruction is able to resume as soon as possible.

Examples of STL projects

Students don’t have to be a tech guru to apply for an STL positionour team provides training on everything they need to know. We look for students who enjoy using technology and showing others how to use it, and who view bugs/error messages as an opportunity to learn. In the STL role, it’s important to be an effective communicator, someone we can rely on to show up on time, and confident enough to jump in when technology might be getting in the way of learning.

Applications will open in the spring for the 20222023 academic year! If you are interested in applying, keep an eye on Slack for more details.
