You see our names behind Slack posts, email messages, and E.Flo communications—but who is the Office of Technology, really? Get to know us a little more (and see which treats we prefer, if you want to bring some by).
Today we are meeting our EdTech manager, Jacki Hudec, who started as a team of one . . . that has now grown to six (plus twenty-four student tech leads).
What brought you to the College of Medicine?
Before moving to Spokane to be close to family, I taught sixth-grade geography! I used the move as a chance to jump into higher education but found that working for the College of Medicine has brought so much more opportunity and growth than I ever could have expected. I never would have imagined working in IT, but am loving it!
What kind of projects are you working on?
I work on a little bit of everything these days, but am most excited about revamping our technology-training strategy. With technology touching everything we do, digital literacy is so important, and there’s so much that this team can do to help our partners feel competent and confident in how they are using it.
What is your secret tech tip?
[looks around furtively] In my experience, it’s harder than you think to totally break an application or piece of software. Don’t be afraid to get in there and try things! (Except in Excel—spreadsheets will break if you just look at them the wrong way, so be careful with that one 😉 )
How did you spend your summer days off?
I’m expecting my second boy in September, so most of my summer was spent on house projects. I’m looking forward to having the nesting out of the way and a newborn to snuggle soon!
What do you love about living in Spokane?
Coming from Oklahoma, it’s a toss up between much more mild summers and actual hills and mountains and rivers and lakes.
What is your favorite kind of cookie?
Cookies have been my #1 craving lately, so pretty much any cookie . . . but my constant friend is dark chocolate Oreo Thins with a tall glass of milk—I promise, they’re a total game changer.

I'm more and more into the NBA with each passing season. October can't come soon enough!
